#19 - Varmint Trapping

#19 - Varmint Trapping

A short description of Varmint Trapping, or Wildlife Control is resolving a wildlife complaint, and prevent future occurring.

Starting a Varmint Trapping business can be difficult, and depending on the laws in your state, you will need to obtain a license and insurance to use any poisons or pesticides. Along with that, it would be good to get some training or schooling to back you up. After you have all of that in order, next would be to get all of the gear that you may need.

Lets say for mice, rats, or any small varmints, you will need mouse traps, sticky traps, poison (make sure they don't have any cats that might eat the dead poisoned mouse...wouldn't be good). And for larger animals you will want to look at the big caged live traps, so you can let them go later on without harming them. I wouldn't recommend foot traps or anything that will harm the animal. If you catch the wrong animal, or even the home owner..you will be facing some legal trouble!

Start out small, and work your way up! With the right education and training, along with a good business plan..you will do just fine!

#18 - Ad Writing

Have you been on Craigslist latley and saw poor ad titles that just don't want to make you click on them? Most people are just putting something up quickly so they can hurry up and sell their item or service. An ad title, and the content will have a major effect on how many people will look at your ad. Pictures are also a big plus, as I know when I search Craigslist for something, if it doesn't have a picture, I don't click on it!

Maybe its time you contacted a few of these sellers or business's, and offered them your service of re-writing their ads for a small fee. Tell them they can expect to see results, get more emails or phone calls, and more business. Every little penny counts, you could charge them whatever fee you wish, but a reasonable fee would be around ten bucks I think, depending on what they are selling or advertising. The price can go up or down, really depends on the product. You can also do this on Ebay as well. Give this one a try, then leave a comment and tell me how its going. I would really like to hear if anyone is trying any of these business ideas. Its going to be a long way to 1000, so if you have any ideas or want to write an article, be sure to contact me.

#17 - Write an Ebook

If you have a knack for marketing, and are a good writer, then maybe an Ebook would be something for you! An Ebook might seem like a heavy task to take on, but if you are patient, and enjoy writing, then this is a major money maker! We will go through a short list from writing the ebook, to marketing that you should follow.

        1) Write your Ebook - Your ebook can be about anything, but your best bet is to write about something you know, and love.

       2) Edit, Revise - Be sure to look over your draft and find any spelling errors or parts that may not make sense. Might even be a good idea to hire a professional editor just for the piece of mind.

       3) Market your Ebook - Sell you eBook online. Best to start with Amazon!

There is alot more to it than that. You really have to get out there and market your ebook. Might also be a good idea to price it low, maybe below ten dollars so more people would want to buy it. Just think if 20 people bought your book for ten dollars. The money would rack up quick just for one ebook! Good luck!

#16 - Babysitter

Babysitting for extra cash is a good job for a stay at home wife, or in some cases..a stay a home dad! Childcare is in demand everywhere, and with everyone working nowadays, someone needs to watch the kids while they are away.

Look around in the newspaper or ask family and friends if they know anybody looking for childcare. If you  really want to turn it into a business, then you might want to search for options on making your business an LLC or a Corp. In  some states, you might even need a license, and or a background check before starting your business.

How much do you pay for childcare?

#15 - Newspaper Routes

#15 - Newspaper Routes

Newspaper routes is always a good way to earn extra money. A paper boy is always needed, as current delivery person's are just doing it to make extra money, or are just doing till they get out of high school, or college. That means job openings pop up a few times a year.

I've done this with the local classifieds for $43 per week, which I only had to deliver papers once a week. The problem however, was that my paper route was huge and was spread out in one big circle. I drove a 4 cylinder neon, and probably spent $20 in gas just delivering them. On top of that, you have to bag them when its raining, and rubber band them before you deliver them.

It was an extra $43 per week, but..for the gas and the time I had to deliver them, it wasn't worth it to me. If you want some extra spending money, and you find a small route that you can use a bicycle or something to run with, you might make some decent money.

Don't forget that you are not working for the company, you are seen as a "sub-contractor" and will have to do the taxes on your own at the end of the year. Keep track of your mileage, and keep receipts for everything related to the job.

Here is a nice article to read: http://www.yourpaperroute.com/content/are-paper-routes-still-profitable

#14 - Dog Walks

#14 - Dog Walks

Dog walking is something almost anyone can do! Some dog's can stay inside for days at a time, or outside in a cage. The owner's are busy with work, or they have too many things going on that they can't walk Fido for an hour!

Caring dog owner's will find and pay someone to walk their dog for them. This is where you come in! Post ads in the gas stations, knock on neighbor's doors, ask everyone on your facebook friend-list if they need their dog walked. You can schedule to walk their dog on certain days of the week, certain times, and set a time limit you will walk the dog for. Most people will walk a dog for 30-60 minutes, so its considered a real "walk."

The dog walker and the dog will both benefit from taking walks. You, the 'walker' will get the exercise you probably need anyways, and the dog will get the exercise and attention it needs. Its a win - win situation. If your lucky, you can walk neighbor's dogs and walk 4-5 of them at once! Just make sure they are friendly with each-other and don't bite each-other's heads off, or you...

If you like dogs, and you like to walk, then give it a try. If not..keep checking back for something that you might like! I post a new idea every other day. Subscribe and stay informed!

#13 - Pet Sitter

#13 - Pet Sitter

Are you passionate about animals? Maybe a pet sitter would be the perfect job for you!

Pet Sitting is the perfect money maker if you are interested in making an extra buck! Sometimes folks go on vacation, or a baby is being born..whatever it may be, they will need someone to watch their pet while they are gone. Fido can't be running free through the house, and feed or water themselves! Plus, all pets need attention, love, and caring from the pet owners.

Your competition will of course be the kennels, which is just a jail for your pets. They feed, water them, and get them out to be played for a few minutes, then its right back in the cage. This is the same argument you can use for your advertising. You will show the pet compassion, play with them along with their daily needs such as water and food. You can also beat the kennels prices, which would also make your business stand out from the rest.

Things you should know:

o Know your competition, and beat them

o Don't pet-sit too many pets. This would be unhealthy and probably against the law.

o Be sure to know of any illnesses the pet may have. You don't want to watch a pet that is about ready to die..wouldn't look good.

o Do your homework when pricing. What kind of food does this certain animal eat? How much food will you need? Any special diets?

Lots of things to consider. Do your homework! If you have done this, or are going to try it, I'd love to hear from you!

#12 - Start a Sawmill

#12 - Start a Sawmill

This idea is going to take some money, and allot of time! But the old saying goes, "It takes money to make money."

I was searching for wood to build my guitar that I'm making, and found that hardwoods are really..expensive! Lets say I wanted a 17x17 inch piece of maple, which is a common tree. They want me to pay $100, plus $30 shipping for a piece of maple! Crazy! So, my idea really would be a good way to make some bucks, if you know where to look for the trees to cut.

How to do it:

  1. Start a Sawmill - Your going to need a chainsaw, a huge table saw, a huge planner, a huge jointer, and allot of other tools that I can't think of off the top of my head. Its going to cost you money, but if you already have some of these then your in luck!
  2. Search - If you are surrounded by trees that belong to you, then good for you! If not, then search Craigslist with a 50 miles radius (it will be worth the drive)and find posts where people want trees removed for free. You can also look in the local papers and such.
  3. Do you homework - Make sure that the trees they want cut down are worth it. Check the internet for similar wood types and see how much they are selling for!
  4. Cut it Down - Go take a drive in your big truck, safety gear, and hopefully some helpers, and cut trees down!
  5. Mill Time - Once you get the wood home, its time to start cutting it, and planning it, and joining it. Make sure to cut various sizes, or just make big sheets that you can cut down later. Always keep the width the same as some people need wider boards and rather not glue them together to make a board wider. The wider the board, the more money you can charge!
  6. Sell It - Might as well sell it on Ebay like everyone else! Start your own Ebay Store and take lots of pictures and list the wood you have to sell.

If you have the right tools for the job, and own a good bit of property, then this may be for you! There is money in selling hardwoods, that's a fact! If anyone tries this, or is doing this for a living I would like to hear some feedback..and maybe give me some prices so I can finish my guitar?

#10 - Virtual Farming

Are you a gamer? Good, because in today's world, you can also make money playing your games! Virtual Farming is where you play a game, find what the currency is in that game, which would be gold, or in some cases "items." You find these items, or gold, and collect them up and sell them for real money. This would be like selling pixels for money. Your profit margin would be like 100% almost, because all you need is a computer, your game, electricity, and internet connect, which you would have all of that stuff anyways.

Some games to look into:

Diablo 3
World of Warcraft
Second Life
Runescape

How to sell you items would be totally up to you to figure out. Some people used to sell Diablo 2 items on ebay until they banned it. Then they started their own websites and created "item stores" which sold the goods and even had a checkout cart, plus 24/7 customer service. They pay for the item, and will deliver the item to you virtually within a few hours, or in some cases minutes.

All in all this is a real neat idea for you to try out. As I'm writing this article, I have the old ball rolling, thinking about it myself :).

#9 - Yard Sale

Money Making Tip #8 - Yard Sale:

I'm sure you have already thought of the idea of having a yard sale to make extra money. The question is, how much thought did you really put into it? Take a walk around your house, in your closet, through your garage, or out buildings. Are you ever going to use those things again? Do you really need it?

Here some idea's on how to sort though the things you want to keep, versus the things you wouldn't mind getting rid of.

  • Tear everything out and put them on one big pile.
  • Sort through everything, item by item. Sort them into 2 piles, the keeps, and the items you wish to sell.
  • Start sifting though the items you want to sell, and start pricing everything in your head.
Now to sell the items. Everyone is familiar with the traditional yard sale, where you put everything out on the front lawn and hope someone driving by wants to buy your items. You can still do it that way, but now with the internet, you have other ways to do it as well.

  1. Ebay - List your small items to sell on ebay. Keep the shipping low, or free!
  2. Craigslist - Craigslist is free to post and sell your items. Most everything is "local" pickup.
  3. Facebook - Search for your area on Facebook and see what "groups" they have. In my area they have "Community Yard Sale" groups where you can upload a picture and others will ask what you want for the item.
  4. Classifieds - I'm sure you have a newspaper or something in your area where you can post classifieds for free. Check out your local gas stations for the papers.
Get rid of all your stupid junk that you will never use again, and pay off some of those dang bills! Or better yet...fill your gas tank up to the top!

#8 - Custom Blog Templates

Money Making Tip #8 - Custom Blog Templates:

Learn how to design blog templates. Blogging has become popular, even more popular than "forums" that have information or "howto" topics because in a forum, they would have to search through hundreds or in some cases "thousands" of posts just to find the answer they were looking for. The good thing about blogs for this type of information is you can organize these "posts" into categories and make it easy to link to them for others to find with minimal effort.

So what does this have to do with blog templates? Nothing really, just comparing a blog to a forum..thats all. But anyways, there are alot of bloggers out there. Most of those bloggers have very little knowledge of web design, coding, or SEO. These bloggers are writers looking to get traffic, sell ad space, and earn revenue. They will pay for a good blog template, if you can customize it to there needs.

What to do:

  1. Buy a domain and web space from iPage.com (cheaper-$25 for a blog)
  2. Build your blog to advertise your business, make it attractive and make people want to do something when they get to your blog, "call to action."
  3. Write articles on how to create blog templates, make videos, whatever you can do to get content on your blog.
  4. Submit your blog to search engines.
  5. People will come to your website looking for information on how to create a blog template. Once they follow your tutorials, make sure you have ads beside them advertising your service. After they get frustrated, which they will, they will click on your link and see what you have got to offer, and how much it is.
  6. If the price is reasonable, you will be in business! To learn how to make templates for different software, just google for tutorials. Here are a few software programs that have a need for profession templates that people would want to buy.
phpBB.com   - Forum Software
wordpress.org - Blog Software
Drupal.org - Content Management System
joomla.org - Content Management System
vBulletin.com - Forum Software
invisionpower.com - Forum Software

Now two of the above software are not free and require a yearly license. Those would be vBulletin, and Invision Power Board. Wish you success and would like to read your results. Also note, learning the php coding language would help to loads with working with this idea, and building your templates. HTML and CSS would help too!

Make money cleaning houses! Alot of people start these types of business, but alot of them go out of business quickly! One thing some people don't understand, no matter what type of service you are offering, you must treat it like a business and act professional. It may be money on the side to you, but to your clients you are a professional that they are paying to have a service done. You must respect the customer and their property or you will never be successful in any small business.

  1. You are your own boss

#6 - Errand Runner

Money Making Tip #6 - Errand Runner

In this busy and crazy world we live in, some folks find it hard to save time to run important errands that they have. This could be ordering and picking up a pizza, or running checks to places to pay bills, or maybe picking up the kids at the baby-sitter, or taking them to doctors appointments. Hell, you might as well add taxi service on your business card!

I know this sounds kind of stupid, but some people with money are stupid. And some people, mostly the older generations, aren't getting around like they used to be..and need help. So your target customers would be rich busy people, or senior citizens. First thing I would do is advertise in the local newspaper. All senior citizens read the newspapers...I mean the "actual" newspapers. You won't find them using a computer the way we do. Different times, different ways of living!

For the rich people, I would turn to Craigslist. They could be in a meeting, or in there car, or maybe just getting up in the morning. They can always be found surfing their iPhones, or Blackberrys, Androids....And they still like to get good deals like everyone else. They are most likely going to check out Craigslist.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you post your results. This one seems interesting!

#5 - Start a Wake-Up Call Service

You think someone would pay you money to wake them up every morning, or whatever time they might need to wake up? What do you mean their alarm clock will wake them up? Alot of people usually just hit the snooze button on their alarm clock, or even turn the thing off and throw it across the room so they can get back to sleep and finish that dream before heading to work. Those 5 minutes that you thought you slept suddenly turned into 60 minutes when you look at the clock.

The benefits of a wake up call:

  1. You get called at the time you need to be up. If you fail to answer the phone, that company can keep calling and calling until you are dressed and on your way to work.
  2. Your guaranteed to be called the same time everyday so you won't be late.
  3. You won't sleep in because its awkward at first having someone call you to wake you up.
  4. Most phone rings will wake you up before an alarm clock..even though they are both annoying.
Where to advertise you may ask? You can advertise in the:
  1. Phone book
  2. Classifieds
  3. Newspapers
  4. Fliers
  5. Business Cards
  6. Craigslist
So just try it and see what happens! Have fun with it, and share your experiences here!

#4 - Open a Bait Shop

This idea might seem out there, but if you live in the right location, and have the 20 minutes per day for maintenance and feeding, you could profit.

To first start your bait business, you might as well start with something easy...Earth Worms!

  1. Get a Styrofoam cooler, about the size of a lunch box, or better yet, get a Worm Kit from Gander Mountain. If you do the cooler, make sure you poke a few holes in the top so they can breath.
  2. Next would be bedding. If your doing the cooler, use old newspapers that are cut up, and make sure to add enough water that it saturates everything. Put enough newspaper so its 2-3 inches high. The kit from Gander Mountain should come with the bedding.
  3. Next add the worms. For your little cooler or the Gander Mountain kit, just add around 20-30 worms. You can find the worms in your back yard, but an easier way would be to dish out $3 and buy them by the dozen.
  4. Now you add the food. Make sure the worms have worked their way down to the bottom before you add any food. Cut up vegetables into small cubes, or add coffee grounds. Don't bury them, just lay them on top. The worms will come up like goldfish and feed when they are hungry. Don't go overboard with the food, and don't add anymore until the food you added is gone. A better route would be to go to Walmart, or Gander Mountain and buy the food there. The food you buy from there also doubles as their food, so you can can knock out 2 birds with 1 stone. The kit from Gander Mountain comes with this.
  5. Now all that is left is maintenance. Make sure you put the cooler in a cool dark place..like a basement. Check on them every 2 days or so, and add water when needed, but don't drowned them! Make sure you remove any dead worms, and turn the soil every week. After all the bedding breaks down and turns to soil, remove it and use it for your garden or something, and then follow step 1 again with adding new bedding.
Your worms should reproduce and be full sized within a year. When you start to get alot of worms, its would be time to move them outside. You can build a square wooden bin and setup and compost pile to put the worms in. They will all stay within the compose pile and keep reproducing. You can then start selling the worms by the dozen. Make sure you beat all the local bait shop prices, and advertise in the local papers or craigslist.

After you get the hang of earthworms, maybe you should the try redworms and minnows. They are also popular fishing baits. I will provide links below for some more reading on compost piles and raising earth worms.

#3 - Start a Lawn Care Business

Here is a business idea that I started six years ago as my first attempt to make an extra buck. The only thing bad about this one is that there is fuel involved...you have to be careful with your money, and plan for things like break downs, fuel, and anything else that might cost you time and money.

If you have an old push mower, or ride on mower, or heck even the ones you push and the blades rotate, then you can make extra cash! You can start off by first, making sure that old mower still runs.. Then walk up and down your neighborhood and knock on doors asking if anyone would like there lawn serviced. If you don't like talking to people, you can always get some business cards made up, or make your own on the computer to pass out while your walking. Sometimes its good to pay more attention to the houses that haven't cut there lawns yet, while everyone around them has a nice trimmed lawn. Usually that person is too busy to mow, or is just lazy. If the price is right, they just might let you mow it!

Some Tips:

  1. Advertise where there  is free advertising. Business cards, fliers, Craigslist.org, or just walk around the neighborhood. Also, fliers in the laundry mat worked for me!
  2. Make sure to keep the phone handy when someone calls. If you miss their call, be sure to call them back as soon as its convention. Don't call them before 8am, and never call past 9pm. Some customers get up late, some get up early. You just don't want to piss them off, so maybe you should wait till around noon....
  3. Be neat, and professional when meeting a customer for the first time, not to mention every week when you come back to mow. You want the appearance of a professional lawn care company, so the customer thinks they are paying for something special.
  4. Be on time. You might be your own boss, and you might not being doing this full time, but you still have to understand that this is a business. You want to be the best worker, and boss that you can be. If you are going to be late to your mowing appointments, you might as well just throw in the towel right now....
  5. Keep equipment maintenance. I learned this the first year. Don't use crap for your lawn care business. It will break down, and you will be spending more than you are making. Once you made enough money, go out and by yourself a brand new push mower, or if you can afford it, buy a brand new riding mower, or find one used that is in excellent shape and was taken care of.
  6. And finally, push yourself to be better each season. Learn from your mistakes and set goals for the new season. Trying your best to meet or exceed those goals and build a trust system with your clients so they will be sure to call you back every year.

Mowing lawns for a living might seem like a dream to many people, including me! But you have to consider the winter season when the grass doesn't grow. You could always pick up leaves for money, do yard clean up, or just do other odd jobs for your usual lawn customers. That money isn't going to be every week like lawn mowing. Once you pick those leaves up, that's it. No more calls for you! Or once the yard is clean, its done, its clean. You can't count on work. Also the winter. Your probably thinking, "heck, I can just plow driveways in the winter and make butt loads of money!" Well buddy, not everywhere around the world does it snow everyday. Take Pennsylvania into consideration, where I"m from. Its January 26th, and we had a big snowfall in October, which is very odd for around here. Then we didn't get anymore until last week, and totaled to around 3 inches of snow. Last year this time, all we ever got all season long was ice and rain...no snow to plow. The year before that, we did get a good bit of snow, and people were making some good money plowing. It all depends on the weather, buts its not guaranteed money. Spring and summer can be a bummer too if its a bad drought season, which we have had in the past 6 years...

So in closing, experiment, learn from your mistakes, trying different methods, and have fun making money! Tell me about your money making ventures!

#2 - Freelance

What are you good at? Chances are, you have to be good at something! There are always people looking for various skills. They search for freelancers because its cheaper, and they can get it done fast, with no bs. Freelancers are skilled individuals who are looking to make an extra buck, or build a portfolio to expand their career.

Freelance websites are all over the web. Just recently I signed up at Elance.com which the basic account is free. You are limited to 15 job bids per month. Someone searching for skilled individuals will post the skills they are looking for, and also a brief description of the job that needs done. Sometimes the job that needs done can take hours to complete, to months...or even long-term opportunities. You will look for the jobs that require your skills, and then fill out the job bid form below their job offer. It will show you how long the client has to respond to the best man for the job, then you will get in contact if you are the winning bidder. You don't have to worry about getting ripped off, because Elance has an escrow account that the client puts the money into. If the client is satisfied with your work, he or she will pay you, and also write a good review about you and your work. I must tell you that on some jobs bids you have to fill out a w-9 tax form, in the event you make over $600, because then you would be required to pay taxes on it. Profits can range from $20 to thousands of dollars.

A brief list of freelance jobs that can be found on Elance are programming, web design, writing, admin support, marketing, ebook and blogs, and everything related to those topics!

There are thousands of web-sites that offer these services, but Elance is the most popular.

Well there you have it! If you have any other suggestions for web-sites that offer Freelance work please leave a reply in the comments section of this post.

#1 - Create a Blog

This isn't an original idea, but I found it appropriate since this blog's main purpose is to make money.

When people go on the internet, they are doing a number of things. But to narrow it down, they are online for entertainment (Enertainment), or they are searching for useful information. A blog can serve both of those purposes. As an example, this blog can contain useful information on how to make extra money to help pay your bills, or launch your online business. But yet, some of the money making tips can be so out there, that you would find it amusing.

Create a Blog the Easy Way

  1. Create a free blog from blogger.com. (requires a google account)
  2. Customize your blog's template so your visitor's will get a feel for your blog. You can easily do this through blogger's template editor.
  3. Next you will want to add the content. Make sure you write good content! Content is the KING when it comes to attracting visitors. Every post you make has to be meaningful, and provide useful information.
  4. After you add your content, you will want to start monitizing your account. Blogger will let you do this with a click of a button! Go to your blog's design tab, and add some widgets. When you click to add a widget, you have a choice of many useful ones. I personally would add a search bar on the top right side of your blog, then below that have your followers below that, so people can see how popular your blog is. Then you will want your blog archives, so they can view posts from the past. After that, you will want your Google Adsense Ads listed. This way, your blog doesn't look like is bombarded with a bunch of ads. You will also want to add an adsense widget in your header, below your site name and description. Please note, when you add the widget and don't have an adsense account, you will have to create one...which doesn't take long at all!
  5. So now you have quality content on your blog, and you have your ads placed so they are there for your reader's to see, its time to submit your blog to the search engines! The tool I use is Web CEO. Click on that link, and download the desktop version on the bottom right side. Its free to use, though they do have an upgrade option. I just use the free version. You can pick what search engines you want to submit to, and it also includes other useful tools. If you don't want to download any software, then just go to google and search for Submitting my Blog to Search Engines or something. It doesn't cost anything to submit, so if you find a website asking for money don't do it!
  6. Now you have your blog set up! As long as you post good, solid content atleast 3 times a week, you should be seeing some money within 7-12 months. The more visitors and followers you get, the more they will recommend you to friends, which will mean more money!
